THUNDERBIRD KINGSLEY – LIVE at The CONTINENTAL, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2008 DSM, IA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DSM, IA 11.7.08 — Powerhouse grain belt blues/roots artist THUNDERBIRD KINGSLEY will be performing solo at The Continental in the historic East Village Neighborhood of Des Moines, IA on Thursday, November 13, 2008 - 9PM-12AM.

"Powerhouse grain belt blues/roots band THUNDERBIRD KINGSLEY approaches the distinct musical form of the blues in a raw and captivating way. Their performances are defined by snarling, gravelly vocals, booming, hypnotic barrelhouse guitar work, and foot-stomping, steam-train rhythm. With powerfully sincere musical arrangements from the late 19th century Mississippi Delta, to the electrified glory days of Maxwell Street, Thunderbird Kingsley's low-down songs about love, loss, murder, graveyards and backroom gambling are literal conduits of raw emotion. Their music is a brutal and heart-felt reminder of an American musical tradition to which every music fan today owes a huge debt."

With the release of their self-titled debut album in September 2007, 2008 Iowa Blues Challenge finalist THUNDERBIRD KINGSLEY have recently garnered the attention of award-winning international blues magazine Blues Matters!, and was featured in their May/June '08 issue. (#43) The sound has been well-received by a variety of audiences - from the blues community to the indie rock crowd.

Thunderbird Kingsley slated to release debut album August 8th, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

THUNDERBIRD KINGSLEY TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM AUGUST 8th, 2007.

DSM, IA 6.28.07 — Experimental blues band THUNDERBIRD KINGSLEY is slated to release their debut self-titled LP on August 8th, 2007. The album will be available on iTunes (US, UK/EU, AUS/NZ, Japan), Rhapsody and Napster.

The album is an abridged collection of recordings done during live performances, in kitchens, basements, studio spaces and hotel rooms from Indiana to Nevada. In the recordings, one can hear dogs barking, floors creaking, amps humming and space heaters moaning behind the music. The band wanted to keep the recordings sparse, keep them raw, and keep the spirit of the blues intact.

“Thunderbird Kingsley is an experimental blues band that approaches the distinct musical form of the blues in a raw and captivating way. Their performances are defined by snarling, gravelly vocals, booming, hypnotic barrelhouse guitars and a powerhouse, steam-train rhythm section. With powerfully sincere musical arrangements from the late 19th century Mississippi Delta, to the electrified glory days of Maxwell Street, Thunderbird Kingsley's low-down songs about love, loss, murder, graveyards and backroom gambling are literal conduits of raw emotion. Their music is a brutal and heart-felt reminder of an American musical tradition to which every music fan today owes a huge debt.”-excerpt from band’s press material

The band has a very unique sound that is well received by a variety of audiences, being described as “Tom Waits meets Tar Box Ramblers, or vice versa,” and “Raw, beautiful and remarkably fresh…” – fan correspondence
